Dental practices have a responsibility to adopt safe systems of working with regard to cross-infection control and decontamination.
We take this issue seriously. Since this practice opened in 1995 we have always maintained separate decontamination facilities, outside of the surgeries themselves in the form of a separate sterilisation room. The accommodation of such a facility is now being recommended by the Government in its guidance for decontamination in dental practice published in 2008 (Health Technical Memorandum 01-05: Decontamination in Primary Care Dental Practices, known as HTM 01-05). All of our instruments are either disposed of or decontaminated between patients.
We follow a strict protocol in the practice of effective decontamination and cross-infection control.
